Club award: Equality Charter Level 2

Brighton Seagals have recently been awarded the Sussex County FA Equality Charter Award Level 2.

The Equality Charter Award scheme consists of three Levels:

• LEVEL 1 – Commitment
• LEVEL 2 – Progression
• LEVEL 3 – Sustainability

The second level of this award required the following actions:

  • Implement a Mental Health Policy

  • Minimum of 2x Club officials to complete The Introduction to Disability Football Course

  • Recruit a new female coach (Playmaker Certified or working towards)

  • Set up a new session aimed at one of the following groups: (LGBT+, Older Women’s Recreation, Disability, Faith, Wildcats)

Club Chair, Justine Thomson, commented:

“The Equality Charter Awards have helped us challenge ourselves as we continue to develop the club, as we now have a wider understanding of what it means to be inclusive. Working through our Level 2 Award has helped set the benchmark to review and maintain our commitment each season as there is always more we can be doing to educate ourselves and our members. We hope we can build on that as we look at the next steps into Level 3!"

The Equality Charter Award scheme has been designed to drive forward the desire to make football inclusive for everyone and encourage those from diverse communities which have not always, at times, felt confident or even welcome to join clubs.
